Planet of the Apes. Not because I wanted to see it, but it was on, I was bored, the remote was too far away and I was just TOO lazy to get up and get it to change the channel.

It was completely out of control, and yes, I liked it. Was it worth watching in the theater? Possibly not.

Dear My Scene Fans,

I finally dared myself to watch the 1980 horror movie, "The Shining", which I just finished watching.

SPOILER ALERT!

I'm gonna admit right now that I covered the YouTube screen during the shower scene, 'cause I didn't want to see that woman's face, AND because I don't really like onscreen nudity (Although I did see some nudity before I moved to the next part of the movie, and thank goodness that the woman was still pretty, face-wise, 'cause the 1980 concept of nudity is, well...sort of...dated!) NOTE: This movie is not for minors!

Anyway, I'm surprised by the fact that I thought that some of the scariest aspects of the movie were its historical, party aspects! I was freaked out by the fact that Jack was interacting with people from the past, and that he actually formed alliances with them so that he could kill the cook, and so that he could terrorize his family! I actually thought that the hotel was super scary, in general, because it was so...big... The skeleton scene frightened me, but the ghost girls, and that man and the dog, didn't really scare me too much. I think that if those girls had said something, they would have been spookier...I WAS spooked by the movie's ending!

I actually spent much of the movie laughing...the scene during which Jack really loses it ("Give me the bat, Wendy!") was a laugh riot! I also think that Wendy's mad struggle on top of the toilet tank wasn't dramatic enough...I mean, it would have been scarier if Jack had sent porceline pieces flying up at her, but, really, she's cowering on top of a toilet tank...it's a good thing that the lid wasn't up, or if she'd slipped...I also think that her scream (when Jack started hacking at the door) was way too obvious; I would have tried to keep silent, no matter HOW scared I was. Wendy's lines weren't believable during that scene, either...

Jack's ever-famous "Here's Johnny!" line just made me laugh, too. Danny's open-mouthed faces, and his screeching during the "Redrum" scene were much scarier than Jack's "Here's Johnny!" line!

I felt sorry for Jack when he was dying in the snow, but I knew that his wife and his son had to get out of there, because the underlying message of the movie is that a bad domestic relationship never dies...unless someone ends the relationship...forever. We all know that even if Jack didn't injure Danny's neck, he DID injure his arm, and that he might have eventually done something else...and that once that hotel got ahold of him, nothing that Wendy could have done would have stopped him from going way off the deep end.

UPDATE: I was watching a review of the movie, and I did see one frame of the woman lying down in the bathtub, but I covered the screen most of the time. I also saw the girls as they were when they died, and that was pretty scary.

What are your thoughts about the movie?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Dear My Scene Fans,

Yesterday morning, I watched "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" AND "Single White Female" between about 1 and 5 A.M.

I just finished watching "The Others", and I'm now watching the very beginning of "The Omen".

I think that the horrifying news from that appointment is settling in once again, in a more depressing way, because I seem to have a zest for very little, and I've been craving all things which reflect my moods (Angry, hopeless, worried, etc.).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I saw this movie today with my sister. Pretty hilarious, but after a while, the masturbation, penis, sex, and butt jokes got old.

Dear My Scene Fans,

WHAT? "Hangover" is another one of those kinds of movies like "Don't Mess With the Zohan" (What WAS the title of that movie with Adam Sandler as the hairstylist?), wherein the basic premise would be better if it weren't hampered by a truckload of dirty jokes? <Sigh>

Well, I just finished watching the original, 1976 version of "The Omen", and now I'm going to review it, so BEWARE OF MAJOR SPOILERS...!

The original version of "The Omen" isn't a very scary horror movie, as far as I'm concerned, but it is interesting.

Why isn't it more scary? Well, for starters, it assumes that in order to be the child of The Devil, one must only cry a lot, and pitch multiple fits in the arms of one's parents. That doesn't cut the mustard with me, because I'm used to being entertained "Exorcist"-and-"Audrey Rose"-style; I know that Damien brainwashed his minions into doing his bidding for him, but when he was captured, all that he could do was to writhe and scream. An ordinary fight scene could contain that kind of action, as could a love scene, or a dramatic hospital scene, so, no, I can't quite buy that cinematic tactic...although I will admit that some of Damien's screaming was pretty freaky...

Secondly, I was disappointed when, to my surprise, I never got to see a living image of Damien's real, jackel mother! For some reason, I'd seen a weird image online, which I'd assumed was Damien's real mother, cloaked, and when I watched the movie, and I was fully prepared to cover the screen, if need be, the only image that I got to see was that of a stupid skeleton! The BABY'S skeleton was more frightening!

I was also struck by a total lack of sympathy for most of the characters! My emotions ran hot and cold, with regards to my sympathy for Damien, but, with regards to most of the other characters, I was fairly nonchalant, or resentful.

I totally disliked Katherine "Kathie"! She was a total snob, and she treated the hired help like trash, and she even SAID "We are the beautiful people!". The mom in "The Exorcist" was one of "the beautiful people" too, but, for Pete's sake, "The Exorcist" didn't have her pitching that principle from within the movie's own lines! Katherine might as well have said, "I am the wife of an Embassador. I have sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, and my son's name is Damien." Needless to say, I wasn't able to feel much sympathy for Mrs. Thorn, even when I knew that she was going to be killed. I didn't really like the idea that she didn't consider her husband's feelings when she practically demanded an abortion, but I hated her snobbishness even before that! While Damien ran roughshod over everybody else, Mrs. Thorn ran over her husband at every available opportunity. Women's Lib., or just a First Class You Know What? You decide!

My other issue with Mrs. Thorn was her reaction to Damien. She didn't really seem to like him much, and I know that the makers of the movie were trying to capture that "I have this feeling of Feminine Intuition that tells me that he's not natural!" feeling, but I think that that's just slightly too stereotypical. Mrs. Thorn had to be the mean snob, the Feminist, and the maddened, put-upon wife, all at the same time (a concoction of stereotypes), instead of just being able to be a realistic woman.

I didn't think much of either the priest or the photographer, except that, towards the beginning of the movie, I sort of felt as though the photographer could become pretty intrusive pretty quickly. I'm surprised that Damien didn't take him out! That would've been easy...

I absolutely HATED Mrs. Baylock, from the moment that she began to behave suspiciously! She was the chief evildoer in the house; she spoiled Damien rotten, and she allowed both him, and the dog, to do whatever they wished, no matter how many people died! She reminds me of some of today's parents, who think that kids should rule the world, messes and rudeness be darned! Was "The Omen" actually a real omen which foretold of today's chaotic society? Today's kids may not be possessed, or anything like that, but to allow them to run everything, when adults are adults for a reason...duh, I'm sure!

Anyway, I actually felt myself becoming angry with Mrs. Baylock! I couldn't believe she'd just be able to kill Mrs. Thorn like that! She deserved her horrific death scene more than anything! She really did deserve the wrath of Mr. Thorn!

Damien himself caused me to feel mixed reactions. I felt alternately hateful, and pitiful, towards him. At one point, I was actually gritting my teeth, 'cause I really hated him, and I didn't care if he died; after all, he was The Antichrist. Of course, his father's own pity caused me to pity him, as did Damien's stereotypical, yet pleading protests at the moment during which he might have died. He seemed to me to be a spoiled rotten, Freudian little tantrum-throwing terror who was not really that much of a threat, and yet who was in some way unfortunately (?) evil, although he seemed to like himself as he was. Okay. Now THAT'S scary...

Embassador Thorn was my favorite character in the movie! Katherine Thorne may have been annoying, and Mrs. Baylock may have been hateful, and Damien may have been fascinating, to a certain degree, but Mr. Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck at his most entertaining, and handsome) was a super guy, who was actually able to develop as a character! What a concept; he was surrounded by static idiots, and he was able to transcend them!

He began as a stereotypical, if stressed-out, slightly-out-of-his-true-element government drone, who seemed so used to being a jerk, and a business-minded stuff-shirt.

He morphed into a true family man, whose chief concerns were his wife and his son; I felt that it was unfortunate that he cared so deeply for so selfish a woman, but, oh well...

He finally morphed into someone who had to do the right thing, as painful as that was. He became someone who had been broken, robbed, beaten, destroyed, and made all but dead, and yet, he became someone who was determined to do what was morally right, no matter how wrong he felt about it. I didn't want for him to kill his "son", and yet, I knew that he had to do so.

I think that Embassador Thorn is the true hero of "The Omen". His only fault was his dishonesty, which might easily excuse some of his wife's behavior. Yet, I still think that he is a hero.

UPDATE: I forgot to say that I found Mr. Thorn's jet-setting ways to be unrealistically funny, and that I also didn't think that Mr. Thorn's treatment of the dog issue seemed to be too fair, in some forms or fashions.

If you've seen the original version of "The Omen", what did you think of it?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Dear My Scene Fans,

I recently watched "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," and without spoiling the movie, let me just say that it's more sweet and sad than it is scary, even though it's plenty scary!

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I saw Orphan today and I have to say it was better than I expected. Granted the 'shocking twist' was ruined since I already knew what it was, but overall it was a pretty good movie.

BTW: they recycled a line from 'The Ring 2' at the end. "I'm not your F**king Mommy" was used in both movies. Do you think it was intentional?

Dear Max,

I've never seen "The Ring", so I don't know if the makers of "Orphan" were trying to give a nod to that movie...I personally think that the movie-makers COULD have been giving a nod to "The Ring", but that they could also have been thinking that the line just sounded really good.

I certainly wish that the movie-making team had placed more of Esther's original back story (from the script) into the final version of the movie, although I think that she could have become JUST as twisted WITHOUT her birth father having been so much of a twisted son of a bear!

Do you think that adoption rates will slow because of the movie "Orphan"? Do you think that those who look sort of like Esther (Spoiler-wise) will be descriminated against more than ever?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Not at all. But the adoption agencies do. That's why they're so up in arms about this movie. I think they're being silly.

The disease described in the movie does not have the same effect in real life as it did in the film. I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen the film so I won't go into detail. But I did a little research and the results are not the same. As usual Hollywood takes a very real disease, assumes no one knows what it does or how it affects the human body, and twists it to fit their 'plot lines.' It's sad really, Hollywood writers must really think we're stupid.

To answer your question, will these people suffer any MORE descrimination because of this movie? No.

If anything people may take more interest in the disease and educate themselves like I did.

On of my favorite parts was in the hospital. After Esther tries to smother the son and the mother Kate comes running down the hall. Esthers just standing there drinking a soda. Kate is furious and says , "What did you do you little bitch!" and slaps Esther across the face. I actually said, "YEAH!" LOL!

Of course that part pales in comparison to the big fight on the ice pond. That's when I REALLy cheered.
