Since we first saw their promotional pictures, a lot of us My Scene fans had a lot of questions about the Lots of Looks My Scene dolls. Hopefully, I can help answer some of these questions with a doll review.

I know the main question everyone has is how the face works. But being a pain in the butt like I am, I'll leave that for last. First let's examine the box.

I had Rob debox them for me, but you can tell it's not very sturdy. Which for a doll line that comes with so many little items, you'd think Mattel would be more careful.

Image

The Accessories

Each L.O.L doll comes with extra jewelry which to me is always a plus. But you also get the standard cell phone, make up pieces and sunglasses. I hardly use the cellphones and make up items. But the jewelry and sunglasses are good.

Image

The Clothes:

The bottoms are cloth. Thank goodness. So even if you hate the tops, you can reuse the bottoms.

The tops are snap-on (duh). It's a little gimmicky but that's ok. The upside to snap-on tops is that you don't get that thread-bare look that some Barbie tops get. The down side is that, as with all snap-on clothes, the doll's back is exposed. So she'll only look good if displayed from the front. Overall though the tops are cute.

Image

The Shoes:

I love the shoes. Normally I don't like My Scene shoes. But these have won me over. The basic look shoe is cute. The sharp heel is mostly so the large wedge pieces stay on, but it makes the shoe look more like a stiletto and I love that! As I mentioned the shoes can be modified by adding the wedge pieces. In essence it turns them into platform shoes. Very 'Spice girl' looking platform shoes.

Image

The Hair:

Each girl in the L.O.L line has straight hair. But crispy, stiff bangs. The bangs kind of make sense as it helps hide the face-switching thing. The little headbands with ponytails are cute. But since the hair ISN'T removable, it limits you as to who can use what headband. Unless of course you don't mind blond Kennedy having brown 'Chelsea' pigtails..

The Doll:

When nude, you'll notice that she has a painted on bra, but not panties. Weird. Even weirder is that the painted on bra cuts off half way. So even when her top is on, you still get bare exposed back. Kind of makes the whole bra thing pointless.
ImageImage

Now what you've all been waiting for, the face switching mechanism. I at first thought it would be like the Swapping Styles dolls where there's a spring loaded / button press function. It's actually a lot simpler than that. All you have to do is pinch the ears in, and the face pops off. Revealing a concave facial area. It's a little alien looking. BUT the good part is that when the face is on and the hair is down, you can hardly even see the seam. THE BEST PART of it is that since the head is soft, you can reroot and rebody a L.O.L doll if you want to.

Image

What I found really strange when rebodying them though, is that they use the large "arrow head" neck knob. BUT they miraculously CAN look down. How weird is that?
Image

Overall though, I'd say the Lots of Looks My Scene dolls are a lot of fun. The face-switching isn't intrusive and it doesn't detract from the doll's overall appearance. More importantly for those of us who like to rebody our My Scenes onto the jointed Fashion Fever bodies, is that the head is soft and easily removable.
Image

The shoes are cute with or without the added wedges. Extra jewelry is a plus. And the ponytail headbands are passable. If I had to take anything away from them, it would be that the snap-on tops are dumb looking without a back. But nothing that's snap-on (clothing wise) ever has a back so even THAT'S forgivable. My only OTHER gripe is that Delancey is absent from the line. Since she and Chelsea share a skintone it widens the ability of look combinations. But at least Nia and Kennedy can switch faces, so all is not lost.

Good review! I'm still not a fan though. I think they're terribly gimmicky and kind of scary.

Goodie! Love them all! LOL face change solved!!!! Congrats Max!

The neck knobs doesn't depend on the protruding piece which holds the head but the attachment inside the neck which tilts the head in place. Seems like they restored the tilting part!!! Thank goodness!

I think we won't be getting these here T-T.

It's an awesome line!

Excellent review and congrats on getting them!

It is a really cool line, but just not for me. If they were to make it to the US, I'd probably get one to just say that I have one. If they didn't make it here, I wouldn't be upset.

I kinda like them now cos I've seen that they all look cute but I can't get over the fact that they have noticeable seams on the edge of their faces. The shoes are hot and I now like the parted lips look. The snap on tops are not bad because the designs are nice.

Thanks for the review Max. LOL mystery solved.

This was really fun to do and I'm happy to share the 'secret of the LOL dolls' with everyone.

Thanks to everyone who commented.

And Kevin, I say get them. You won't regret it.

Great review Max 8)

The pic without the face sorta reminds me of the fembots from the Bionic Woman without all the wires inside...LOL

These are cute but I will pass on the line :?

Yes, they are very much like the Fembots from the Bionic Woman. Or Amber Sweet from Repo. It depends on your Sci-Fi preference. ;)

Dear Max,

Thank you so much for the review/ tutorial! In my opinion, the Lots of Looks wave= Lots of Love...from me! I'm going to be doing lots of looking for the entire wave! I can't wait to find the wave, and the 2010 articulated Barbie dolls; there's much body swapping in my future!

I realize that this wave presents two major drawbacks:

*= The snap-on tops, which don't cover the girls' backs
*= The face seams, which are sort of like those of the JL girls

Those setbacks aren't going to keep me from looking for an otherwise super wave, though! I now realize that the Fashion Week wave, AND the Lots of Looks wave, are both total Wish List MUST-HAVES!

I almost wish that I could somehow get 3 copies of each set, because I'd like to avoid having to switch face plates...ever...; each individual face could belong to a different girl...for good!

Thanks in advance for your reply! I know that you're going to be having a ton of fun with the LoL wave!

Thanx so much for the review Max. The LOL line is WAY better than I expected. I had SO many doubt about this line but Mattel totally thought everything out and they are great, even berret rebodied. Spooked me a bit when I saw the pic of Kennedy faceless.

I would definately get Nia and Madison, even though I can't stand dolls with the stiff straight hair. I hope this line comes to the US, or at least to a online company like SweetDreamsCreations that sells to the US.

I love the open mouth face mold Mattel should produce a line or two of them in the future. Maybe another swapping line.

Dear Spunky,

So, THAT'S what your spooky side looks like!

On a serious note, I am curious to know why you like the "Blank Face" the most. Does it remind you of the face of the What's Her Face doll from a few years back?

Thanks in advance for your reply.
 :?:

I'm not sure. It just looks more interesting.
I guess I'm just used to seeing them looking
the same and the blank face just happens to be
the newest looking face. It looks funny, yet cute.

Is it wrong that I find the blank face cute? Cuz, you know, I do.

Yay for the review! Part of me wants this line and part of me is mostly glad that the odds of it appearing anywhere nearby are awfully low.

Mattel has finally hit a new low. Not everyone leaves their dolls in the box, in the same outfit with the same hairstyle, which is why it's frustrating when they flock gloves, leave the hair in the back a frizzy mess and have outfits sewn on to the doll. Now we don't even get a complete doll?! Sure, this line looks good from the front, but from the back and sides it's a mess! I want a doll that I can view and photograph from all angles! I already hate it when the outfit has an attached belt that stops on the sides, and now the shirt stops at the sides?! FORGET IT!

Thanks for the pics, Max, but this line gets a thumbs down from me.

Interesting, but I don't think I'd spring for one. I'm definitely among those who find them a bit creepy. I didn't like those face changing MS dolls much either. The swapping styles are okay because at least you can pop the heads off the switcher plate and onto regular Barbie bodies, which I have done, but these are too sci-fi looking for me. Weird.
