Just wondering...why is it Avatars can't be larger than 6kb in file size? I have a couple images I wanted to use and had to scrap cuz they were 30kb.

Thanx in advance :)

Linda I think it's because the bigger the image it stretches the board more than it should be...just a guess

Just make the file size smaller. It shouldn't affect the quality or proportion of it.

As far as I can tell that part of the avatar rule isn't enforced because 6kb is itty bitty and I think most people's would break that if anyone cared to look. Usually that bit of the rule is just enforced for boards where you can upload your own image to keep bandwidth issues down.

I think it's just the dimensions here that are [semi]regulated, to keep the forums from going all wonky.

The last thing we need is someone rocking an avatar the size of a desktop wallpaper. LOL

It's a bandwidth thing, not a width (stretch) issue. Not necessarily to keep the board's bandwidth spendings down, but to be polite towards those visiting on dial up and slow connections. The page load will take forever with "heavy" avatars and signatures in addition to all the pictures posted in the topics.

Hey, I'm really going to do it though just to prove a point. Some poeple on here are really ridiculous when it comes to their avatar size. Oh and another thing: When people reply to a post with pictures, they never edit out the pic's URL so the pictures repeat 100 times.

Okay I'm off to go find a picture.

Wow...they are really BIG...some others are just too selfish to reduce their avatars no matter how many times they've been told so BRAVO to you both 8)

I wonder if I'm guilty for pictures. My screen is in high resolution so the pics often look small on my screen.

No hun. Not that Im aware of.

Its simple enough for people to resize them.
I think they just load them straight from flickr or Photobucket without changing the size.

They just need to import things in the large option.
Thats what I do.

It nice to have big pics. Just not giant, massive ones.

xx
