Dear My Scene Fans,

The following is an update of my 7-18-2006 "My Kewpie Scene" idea:

MY KEWPIE SCENE

I wonder if anyone remembers Troll Barbie; she arrived with mini Trolls (those Trolls with the rooted hair and the belly buttons.)

I think that the My Scene girls look as though 1920s clothes would suit them very well; I think that an entire wave should be built around the 1920s theme. The name of the wave should be "My Kewpie Scene".

Each My Scene girl would wear a 1920s-inspired bathing suit, and each girl would arrive with 1920s-inspired pajamas, a 1920s-inspired bathing suit, a real mini diary with either blank or filled in pages, a sweet Kewpie doll (which matches each girl, with regards to its skin tone), and, of course, other accessories, like necklaces, "electric" bedchamber candle lights, photos of people like Rudy Valentino and Theda Barra, etc.! Of course, the best accessory would be a larger, scented Kewpie doll, which would be for...YOU! (NOTE: BOTH Kewpie dolls match the My Scene girls with which they arrived, with regards to their skin tones)

The back of each box would discuss the history of the Kewpie doll (this popular doll was invented because of a lady who thought up the idea of the Kewpie character way back in something like 1909!)

KENNEDY: Kennedy looks like a Kewpie sort of girl in her light pink dress, which is worthy of a silent movie! This girl's Harlow-platinum hair is between short an long, because she wants to be both elegant and modern! Her pajamas are a soft, eggshell color, and her bathing suit is baby blue. She thinks that her Kewpie doll, which isplump, cherubic, and rose-scented, is the cat's meow!

MADISON: Madison is a wild "Jazz Baby," soher hair is appropriately bobbed and curly! Madison's star look is enhanced by her mint green flapper dress and swingy beads! This wild child loves wearing her light pink pajamas, and when she goes to the beach, she shows off her modern style in a lilac-hued bathing suit. She's a star, but she gets sentimental when she's looking at her innocent Kewpie doll, which is mint-scented.

CHELSEA: Chelsea loves the art scene, and her hair is a work of art, with its short curls. Chelsea will herself becomea work of art in her soft yellow, uniquely designed dress. This artistic lady's pajamas are baby blue, and her bathing suit is eggshell-hued. She turns to her joyful, lemonade-scented Kewpie doll for inspiration!

NOLEE: Nolee is the quintessential mystery girl, and her sleek bob and mysteriously peach-hued dress add to her intriguing appearance. When Nolee isn't being a night owl in her mint green pajamas, she's out on the beach in her baby blue bathing suit. Nolee's partner in classic fun is her watchful Kewpie doll, which is peach-scented.

DELANCEY: Delancey loves to play sports, and her super short (just above the knee...ghasp!) baby blue dress is sporty and flirty; so's herhairdo! Delancey's active lifestyle requires some rest, so shewears her lilac-hued pajamas to bed. When she's sportin' on the beach, she wears a light pink bathing suit. This lovely lady loves to be playful, and she loves her playful, ocean-scented Kewpie doll!

JAI: Jai's 1920s-inspired look is lovely! This sassy lady's bobbed hairdo and lilac-hued dress are beautiful. Her yellow pajamas are elegant, and her light pink bathing suit is the latest in 1920s-inspired style! Jai thinks that her cute, lilac-scented Kewpie doll is the bee's knees!

KENZIE: When a Southern girl like Kenzie goes for the 1920s-inspired glam look, she goes for the elegant look! Kenzie's dress is eggshell-hued and proper, and her hair is done up in an upswept bun! This modern Southern lady loves her baby blue pajamas and her yellow bathingsuit. She wakes up each morning to the face of her dreamy, cream pie-scented Kewpie doll.

Feel free to offer comments, suggestions, etc., and please tell me if both of the Kewpie dolls should be clothed, as to avoid...controversy...

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Dear myscene4ever,

Thanks for the compliment!

I was inspired by my own Kewpie, who has been with me for years!

The one sad fact about my Kewpie idea, and about the commercialization of the Kewpie, in general, is that the creator of the Kewpie character never intended for her Kewpies to be commercialized.

The Kewpies were actually important because they were together, as a band of cherubic beings, rallying for women's causes. The Kewpies were male; they were there to rally for a lady, and to march for her rights. They were never intended to side-glance, to simply lift someone's spirits, or to be mascots for a "Happy, happy! Joy, joy!" way of thinking! I was shocked when I read that information online, because I had always assumed that the commercialized image of the Kewpie was correct!

Thanks in advance for your reply.

One thing. D & Jai have the same color bathing suit, and I think the egg-shell/Baby blue/Light Pink colors are used a little too much...a bit repetitive but other than that it's a cool idea

Dear My Scene Fans,

I once posted a message about an idea for a wave which would have been entitled "My Kewpie Scene", but I didn't know much about Rose O'Neill back then.

I had stated that the Kewpies were all boys, and that they were supposed to travel in bunches, and to protect women, but I can't remember where I'd read that information, and nothing that I've recently read about Rose O'Neill suggests that that was her intent when she created the Kewpie characters 100 years ago (I've learned that the Kewpies WERE supportive of social causes, including sufferage...)!

I swear that I wasn't just feeding anybody a line of horse pucky; I really did read that information. It's just that the information may have been wrong. What I know is that Rose O'Neill was about 35 when she created the Kewpie characters in 1909 (The first Kewpie dolls arrived in 1913), and that she had suffered through two unsuccessful, childless, miserable marriages, and that she had promised herself that she'd never marry again; I suppose that she sort of created the Kewpies in order to comfort herself...

Rose O'Neill's idea was that the Kewpies were there to help people, to make them laugh, and to make their lives brighter...

I think that Mattel should take the opportunity to honor Rose O'Neill, and the Kewpies, for the Kewpies' 100th Birthday this December with several My Scene waves...which WON'T necessarily deal with a specific era, or cliched hairstyles, etc. Rose O'Neill was NOT stereotypical in any way, shape, or form..., with regards to the sort of ideals that she believed in...

MY SCENE HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KEWPIE!: Kennedy, Madison, Chelsea, Delancey, and Nia arrive sporting styles which are reminiscent of the style that Rose O'Neill favored: the comfortable style! They feature simple makeup, long, long hair, and cool accessories (Ie: Art suplies, etc.) which are truly individualistic and inspiring. Each My Scene girl arrives with her own scented Kewpie doll, which shares her skin tone (K= Lemonade , M= Mint, C= Rose, D= Ocean). Each My Scene girl arrives with a Proof-of-Purchase, which, when sent to a certain address with a certain amount of money, will get the PoP-holder a 12-inch Kewpie, which corresponds to the Kewpie which arrived with whichever My Scene friend the PoP came from (Ie: Kennedy's corresponding larger Kewpie shares her skin tone, and is Lemonade-scented). The sender of the PoP will also receive another surprise which relates to the creater of the Kewpies (Ie: A photo, a poem...a different surprise, depending upon which PoP is sent...), and a FREE movie ticket (I WISH that Hollywood would release a bio. movie about Rose O'Neill this Christmas, starring...?, but you can guess how likely THAT'LL be...)

MY SCENE MY KEWPIE: This wave is very simple. Each My Scene girl arrives in a slightly formal fashion which expresses their true personality, and each arrives with a corresponding Kewpie which is scented like something yummy (K= Berries, M= Orange sherbet, C= Sugar cookies, D= Lollipops)

MY SCENE KEWPIE ART: Each My Scene girl arrives wearing an all-white outfit, and it's up to YOU to decorate it with Kewpie style, but mini-stensils, safe paints, markers, glitter, fabric stickers, etc., are all included, so that your job as a fashion designer will be more fun! Each My Scene girl also arrives with her very own Kewpie, who is slightly larger than the other My Scene doll-sized Kewpies, and who arrives with their very own tee-shirt that you can decorate!

What do you think of the aformentioned ideas? Do you think that they sound better than my old, 1920s-style My Scene Kewpie idea (Remember the 1920s dresses, bathing suits, and pajamas?)

Thanks in advance for your replies.
